Non-Fashion People Have Fashion Feelings, Too

It’s been quite a while since I last did a social experiment involving fashion so here’s another one for sheeeeeez and giggles.

I trolled around teh interwebs earlier today and asked four heterosexual American males of different backgrounds to give me commentary based on fashion-related images I sent them. These are your “average joe”-type of people who have no idea what is Laura Hollins’ stage name or who designs Ungaro or where the hell Carmen San Diego, I mean KASS, is.

The results are effing hilarious. Click the first link to begin. I’m warning you — it’s a long read!

On my next installment, I’m gonna do them Brits! I’ll also turn the tables and ask fashion people to give me commentary based on images submitted by non-fashion people.

Ooooo project!

Historically, I’ve only found the high-top style of sneaker appealing in a more modern, futuristic design.

However, being the connoisseur of comfort that I am and my tendency to lean toward the more masculine, apathetic side of shopping habit, I’ve owned at least four pairs of the same shoe over the years – the retro/classic Adidas Campus sneaker. So I can appreciate a merger of the two distinct styles. I would definitely wear these Lanvin sneakers in public.

Not a bad looking sneaker. I would like to see a different color combination however, and possibly rethink the height on the ankle.

OK. I know what this sneaker is. A lot of my friends want it probably because its expensive and not because it looks good. Designers should stop making sneakers!!!! Leave that to Vans or Nike or Adidas because those guys make awesome looking sneakers. This shoe is crap. NOT very awesome looking.

It’s like a really goofy mix between a converse and a nike dunk. I guess I like it. I would buy it but not for that price.

The dress is pretty hot. I wouldn’t mind giving it to that girl either.

I approve!

Plain, but well thought out. Not loud and obnoxious like some of the designs I’ve seen lately. The dress would probably make great casual wear if you could easily afford this. Not really much else to say here.

Alexander Wang has hit a home run for my hetero wang with this hooker-chic short and strapless dress. A throwback to the Pretty Woman decade of prostitute fashion, this slinky tube of nylon and spandex could make the straightest brokeback on the mountain horny enough to finish off Richard Gere before having his way with Julia Roberts — no anal; lets not take this too far.

This is for Miami right? Is it supposed to be classy? The dress reminds me of those hoochie big booty girl dresses Latinas wear with their big gold hoop earrings. I like those lines/textured fabric… reminds me of…..bamboo/paper window blinds. Pull a drawstring and dress goes UP!

Nice sandals, but I’d get rid of the wings on the side. Are we making paper airplanes or going to the beach? Here’s a more important question when buying sandals: are they comfortable? These certainly don’t look it.

Velcro should not be attached to anything with a £479.00 price tag on it. Ever. There are more technologically advanced ways of securing shoes to your feet. These sandals are sort of a paradox. The solid white color scheme says “come on me!” but the smooth bottoms say “don’t! I’ll slip!”.

Pass.
