Earlier this year, the formidable Suzy Menkes contacted me to participate on this year’s International New York Times Luxury Conference at the Capella Resort in Sentosa Island, Singapore. The theme focused on luxury’s new frontier — South East Asia. I’m really glad I went. It’s my first time to attend Suzy’s annual luxury conferences and boy I learned a lot. I loved Wen Zhou’s (Phillip Lim’s CEO) humor! Although my session was quite light (it was a Q&A) compared to other key speakers, some complete with powerpoint presentations, I must say my nerves got the best of me. It’s not every day that I get to speak in front of over 500 luxury executives! Before my session started, I spent about four hours sitting on the front row watching other speakers with my partner-in-crime in Singapore, Anna Sui. I wanted to go to the bathroom so bad to do number one. However, because the event is being filmed, taped and livestreamed, I didn’t want to stand up and be taped walking out of the room so I held it together.
Because it’s a conference and not fashion month (when everyone looks like a Christmas tree), I ditched the usual accessories and went for this gold flower pin from David Thomas’ collaboration with Jason of Beverly Hills called “Gentleman”.
After a grueling, eight-day trip in Singapore and the Philippines, I’m finally back at my shoebox of an apartment in New York. It’s nice to be home. Home sweet home as they say.
It was also nice to see all my loved ones in Manila. I know they went through that mammoth of a typhoon Haiyan a few weeks ago but everyone I know was spared. I’m super lucky, not to mention grateful, that they’re all safe, sane and sound. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people who survived (and lost lives) such a gut-wrenching tragedy. If there’s anything to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, I’m genuinely thankful that my family and friends are well.
It’s no secret that I’m a HUGE Miuccia fan, however, believe it or not, I haven’t bought anything Prada during fall 2013. Things will most definitely change next season though. They’ve just released their Resort 2014 ad campaign video and boy oh boy, the tropical prints are screaming to be worn…
Who went from New York to Milan, Paris to Los Angeles (for thirty six hours) then Paris again during fashion month? I did! For a good reason — I went to my first Teen Vogue Young Hollywood event and boy I had lots of fun! Check out this fun video with my friend Andrew the morning before the amazing party.

My homeland, the Philippines, is on the spotlight once again because of Typhoon Haiyan. All the catastrophic images and videos I’ve seen online are gut-wrenching. I’m so lucky and blessed that my family and friends back home were spared from the disaster but for the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people who were affected by the storm, their lives are changed forever. I can’t even imagine what the survivors went through during the storm and what they’ll go through as they try to rebuild their lives moving forward. What a mess!
While it’s great to donate to the big institutions such as UN World Food Programme (click HERE) and Oxfam (click HERE), I also like to support smaller organizations that send relief to victims and survivors. My friend Julie Gilhart shared to me the efforts of Waves For Water. To kickstart their Haiyan campaign, they’ll immediately send at least 200 clean water filtration systems providing up to 20,000 typhoon survivors access to clean water. Why don’t you take a break from what you are doing and do what I did — donate a few dollars and give yourself a pat on the back for a good deed. Every little bit counts.
What happens in Santiago… will be shared online soon.
Can you believe it’s almost November? The spring summer 2014 show season aka “Fashion Month” ended several weeks ago but it feels like a lifetime! Some of you already know that I provided video coverage of the select shows via Twitter and Vine for one of my favourite online shopping destinations, The Corner. Their team compiled the videos I took… allow me to present you Spring Summer 2014 in 180 seconds. Highlights include Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, Derek Lam, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Joseph Altuzarra, Jil Sander, Marni and more!

Yesterday night belonged to Giorgio Armani. Actually, scratch that. October 24, as decreed by Mayor Bloomberg, is Giorgio Armani Day in New York City. I spent most part of my evening at his “One Night Only” event, featuring a retrospective of his Privé collections on a runway show and an exhibit called “Eccentrico“. I’ll share more photos on a separate blog post. Still gobsmacked how Mr. A’s team transformed the massive SuperPiers into a really chic venue. No detail was spared, from the carpeting to the scent wafting in the air! Yesterday night was definitely a night to remember. Bravo!

In preparation for this Thursday’s major Giorgio Armani “One Night Only New York” festivities and the launch of “Eccentrico” exhibition, I went to the Armani Fifth Avenue flagship boutique to select an outfit for the event. As always, I love the attentive service at the store. I also went upstairs to Armani Ristorante, something I’ve never done before, for a little post-shopping aperitivo situation. LOVED the Armani Martini. Delicious.
