Алёна Долецкая - Истории в Деталях

My knowledge of Russian is very limited but I love this video interview of Vogue Russia's Aliona Doletskaya at Истории в Деталях (History in Details).

I wish some generous soul put English subtitles to it but oh well.

Inspirational

Inspirational

I know it's a little too late but I've just received my mail fedexed from home. You probably have seen images of Vogue Russia's September 2009 issue with Kate Moss but have you read the Editor's Letter? Inspirational words from Aliona as always.

I am convinced that if a woman has found her calling, only then does she understand her true worth. Take supermodel Kate Moss, for instance, who refuses to give interviews. The silent beauty (what need does she have to talk?) earns serious money by just doing what she does best. And no matter what tests and humiliations she must endure, she recalibrates the world to suit herself, becoming more beautiful, strong and successful in the process. Or take director and actor Renata Litvinova, who beats her own path through the arts - fearlessly and effortlessly. These and many other heroines of September issue -- indisputable professionals in their fields - are real women: beautiful, elegant, attractive and, in their own way, touching. They are the Thelmas and Louises of our time, who feel constricted in the cage of bourgeois values. They are happier going against the grain, beating the boys at their own game - when their blood races with success, and independence is no enemy of women's happiness. This month's Vogue is dedicated to these strong women - may there be ever more of them - and the no less strong and independent fashions they espouse. - Aliona Doletskaya

Don't move. The only thing I want to hear from you my dear reader is the word 'amen'.

Am I right or AMIRITE? What say you?

Amazing Aliona

Amazing Aliona

Right before the Marc Jacobs show on Monday, I had an afternoon meeting/chat and drinks at the Gramercy Tavern with Simon Robins and the stunning Aliona Doletskaya of Vogue Russia, my favourite edition of Vogue.

Aliona Doletskaya

As you know, I'm a super big fan of Aliona and to spend time with her is something I never thought would happen. She's INCREDIBLE! That's all I have to say.

More updates to follow.

PS. Thank you for giving me a ride to the MJ show!

Bling it Up! + Dree Hemingway for Vogue Russia August 2009 Cover

Bling it Up!

I'm sure you've seen the August 2009 issue of Vogue Russia with Dree Hemingway by now. IMO, it's Aliona's strongest cover of the year so far.

Dree Hemingway for Vogue Russia August 2009

Well, I was inspired to wear a little bit of bling bling (or should I say bing bing cause we're talking about cubic zirconia here not diamonds) myself. I don't think I'll be able to afford ginormous Graff rocks in this lifetime but lookie lookie at this cute treasure I picked up last week. It's huge! It's perfect for those days when you want to punch someone on the face to leave a long, lasting impression. Hah!

Loves it!

Aliona Doletskaya on CNN! [video]

Aliona Doletskaya on CNN!

It's not just Anna Wintour racking up precious television airtime but my beloved Aliona Doletskaya (Russian Vogue Editor-in-Chief) is on CNN!

I'm not 100% sure about this but a friend who is a stylist told me that as far as circulation count is concerned, Vogue Russia is one of the top three, beating Vogue Paris and Vogue Italia. The other two are British and the American editions.

Hotness!

Thank you Vogue Russia!

Thank you Vogue Russia!

Yeehaw! Finally, my own personal copy of Vogue Russia in flesh (or should I say in print) delivered direct to my mailbox. As I previously reported, Magdalena Frackowiak is on the cover of this month's issue.

This magazine is a great source of inspiration not only because of their covers but also its content. It's so sad they don't sell it here in Manila.

Thank YOU so much to the lovely angel over there up in Moscow for the generous and kind subscription. I look forward to getting inspired every month.

Simon Robins

Simon Robins

Lookie lookie at who my friend snapped in NYC last week. It's Simon Robins, Fashion Director of my favourite Russian Vogue.

Simon Robins

Yeehaw. Thank you thank you thank you! I'm sooo happy! I'm a big fan of Simon's work. I first heard of Simon on POP magazine back in the dark ages. Yes, I still have the first issue of POP (the one with Stella McCartney pole dancing on the cover) lying around in the house. I love my ancient relics, thanks very much.

Meanwhile, I'm definitely gonna add this to my fasheen collecsheen. I am gonna work hard and save in the next few months to come. It's Paris or bust next season!!!! I think it would be fun to meet everyone for real. I've already met Carine... this time I wanna meet Aliona Doletskaya too. I've been told by my friend that Simon mentioned they want to meet me as well. I hope my friend is not talking cack. A gurl like me can only dream eh?

For more Simon Robins, be sure to visit the Love Magazine blog where he appears every once in a while and of course, Mykromag which is due to be launched next month.

Now... let's play a game my dear minions.

How many fall/winter 2009 coats can you identify based on the photo above? If you need more help, here's a bigger version of the photo.

I spy with my old beaten-up Fendi spy bag the enormous and spectacular fuchsia Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen (hint: behind the Dolce coat), Blumarine and Prada. I could be wrong with the Prada one though but it's the embellished charcoal piece near the blue furry (Marios Schwab ??) piece.

Answers on a Vogue Russia notecard.

Magdalena Frackowiak is on the cover of the May 2009 issue of Russian Vogue.

This cover is fantastic. It's definitely better than last month's. Magdalena looks flawless in that Gaultier (??) bathing suit!!

Maybe it's just me but for some reason, I'm getting a constructivism vibe to it. The cover reminds me of those Russian/Soviet "propaganda" posters if you know what I mean. Perhaps it's the playful use of the fonts? I know the colours used (red, white and blue) are the same as the Russian flag.

Vogue Russia March 2009

My gurl, the Russian stunner Natasha Poly, is on the March 2009 cover of Vogue Russia.

Natasha Poly for Vogue Russia cover March 2009

Also in this issue is a wonderful article of their favourite fashion blogs. I don't speak/can't read Russian but I had a Muscovite friend translate the article for me. I always get excited every time fashion magazines and traditional media write about bloggers. Blogging is still a very young 'industry' -- those of us who don't have a lot of experience still have lots to learn from veterans so yeah, it's definitely an honor to be recognized and have their support.

On the first page of the article (click those thumbnails) you'll see that even some of my readers (holding "I LOVE BRYANBOY" signs) made a quick lil' cameo appearance! WOW! Thank you so much for the lovely, lovely mention. OMG Aliona you seriously rock! You know, I was hoping I'd see Aliona in NYC but I've been told (before I left) that she skipped NYC this season so there. Oh well. It would've been soo cool meeting her and my trip would've been "complete". Hopefully that would happen sometime in the future because Aliona Doletskaya is one of my favourite editors E-V-E-R.

Special thanks to Josef who lives in Austria for the scans. You're so lucky you're able to buy Vogue Russia there!!! I hope something shows up on eBay soon because I want to get my own personal copy. Hello, Vogue Russia is one of my fave magazines and you guys already know that.

Victoria Beckham for Vogue Russia February 2009 Cover

Victoria Beckham for Vogue Russia February 2009 Cover

In a very rare feat, one of my favourite Vogues ever, Vogue Russia, featured a celebrity -- top fem bot Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) -- on their February 2009 issue cover.

Victoria Beckham for Vogue Russia cover February 2009

I hope celebrities-on-covers won't become the norm with Vogue Russia though. In any case, it's still 104% fashyonnnn. The cover is fierce and cheeky at the same time. Posh looks absolutely flawless and stunning. It's nice to see her without the fake bake and that hat is gorgeous! Can't wait to see scans online when they are available.

Vogue Russia. 10 Years in Vogue

Vogue. Russia. 10 Years in Vogue

Remember my blog entry about those gorgeous designer Matryoshka dolls last month? Well, Editor-in-Chief Aliona Doletskaya's assistant emailed me earlier today with details.

As you have seen on the November 2008 issue of Russian Vogue, some of the world's leading designers (including Miuccia Prada, Donatella Versace, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, etc.) designed a Matrioshka doll. Each of these (half-a-meter tall) dolls were handrafted by skilled Russian artists and meticulously painted by hand.

Vogue Russia. 10 Years in Vogue

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, Vogue is hosting a grand gala dinner on November 20, 2008 for 200 of Vogue Russia's closest friends which includes international business and political elite, key players in the art and fashion worlds and Russian and international celebrities. Are bloggers invited too? Just kidding. The Matrioshka dolls are then going to be auctioned off for charity that night. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Northern Crown Foundation, a charity that helps orphaned children throughout Russia.

In other words, pedestrians like you and myself won't be able to bid on these gorgeous dollls. But that's OK. One must be kerrr-azzy to go on a bidding war with a Russian oligarch anyway!!!

Amazing eh? How can you not love Aliona and Vogue Russia?

For more information, visit http://www.vogue.ru/10years.

Happy birthday Vogue Russia!!!!

PS. Thanks Ekaterina!
