Patrick Demarchelier shot Charlize Theron (in Versace) for the cover of British Vogue’s May 2012 issue. What a beautiful, glamorous cover. I love the all-white backdrop, including, yes, the couch. At least there’s something. I was starting to wonder when they’ll stop using their tiresome studio backdrops…
Blast From British Vogue’s Past
Wow, my entry about Kate Moss’ cover for British Vogue brought an influx of interesting emails. Thought I’d share this note from my reader John F., who also sent me photos of his favourite covers.
I agree with your comments about British Vogue. I’ve been writing to them for about 2 years now asking for them to raise the bar on their creative side particularly with the covers. I believe British Vogue was at it’s best in the late eighties and early nineties when Liz Tilberis was at the helm. Why to they always opt for the pretty celebrity blonde with the crowded hot pink or red typography? Some of my fave covers attached..
Love your blog
Out of his personal selection, I love this.
Those were the days eh?
Reminiscing the past from time to time is great but it’s all about moving forward.
Meanwhile, click HERE to see a preview of what’s inside the September 2010 issue of British Vogue. There’s a gallery highlighting what’s inside the magazine. I will, of course, pick up my copy because Vogue is Vogue is Vogue is Vogue afterall!
Kate Moss for British Vogue – September 2010 Cover
This, my dearest friends, is Kate Moss' 30th cover for British Vogue.
It's her sixth September cover.
Previously, Kate's been on the September 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009 issues of the magazine.
I think we all agree that she's a fashion icon through and through.
I love British Vogue and I know Kate's powerful prowess sells issues but come on…
I'm gonna be honest here. I look at that cover and there's no WOW factor. No element of surprise. It doesn't even spark my curiosity. In other words, it's the same old, same old, same old, same old… multiplied by a factor of thirty.
Yes, we'll most likely buy the magazine not because we see something exciting but because it's British Vogue and you have to get it to be informed.
I just think it's sad that we have to look elsewhere to get what we want from the magazines that we love…
Sometimes I wonder what the magazine industry would be like if everyone in present-day fashion publishing just vanished into thin air (all of them, the whole lot of them from top to bottom) and our favourite glossies got a clean slate…
With that being said, who wants to bet that Kate will be on the cover again on September 2011, September 2012, September 2014 and maybe September 2016?

Anna Wintour Flexes Her Muscle While Carine Roitfeld Plays Second Fiddle in Her Own Turf
On January 25, Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld and the French Industry Minister, Christian Estrosi, had a meeting to discuss the future of French fashion and what the French government can do to help the (struggling) fashion industry.
Oh how I laughed when I first saw these images. This is what happens if you put Bill Clinton, Monica Lewinsky and Hilary Clinton together. Look at their body language… and look how Carine graciously distanced herself from Anna and Christian.
A brilliant display of power (Anna) and sportsmanship (Carine) right there!
Dramalamama, aye caramba Anna Carinnenana. Doesn’t it look like a scene out of a movie? You know, a man, his wife and a mistress? I’ll let you decide who’s the apple and who’s the orange but lady number one looks immaculate in her well-fitted suit,
her luxurious chinchilla fur collar and of course, her impeccable
coiffure — not a hair out of sight. Meanwhile, lady number two is one sexy, hot cougarlicious mess: striking zebra
coat, ferocious trademark raccoon eyes and matching brothel hair.
Upon further thought (yes, I know it doesn’t happen very often but unfortunately for me and you, I *do* like to exercise my brain from time to time to burn calories), I realized these photos represent a very bittersweet state of affairs. I could only imagine how intense, and to a certain extent, how embarrassing, it must have been to Carine that Mama Wintour is taking proactive measures — in her own turf.

No diva attitude here. She's very sweet and kind!
How funny. There I was thinking about Vladislav Doronin before I left Manila then I decided to forget him… lo and behold the fiancee, the iconic werqing supermodel Naomi Campbell is here!!!! HELLO!
Can you imagine how magical the Vogue Russia office is? One of the world's iconic supermodels (and I'm not using the term loosely) casually pops by just like that, you know, just another day at the office… haha!
Ooof. I think I hear fashion fags say 'leave Nay Nay alone'! Haha ;-)
Alexandra Shulman at Celine Spring 2010
I smiled when I found this photo of British Vogue's Editor-in-Chief Alexandra Shulman on Twitpic. She looks so calm reading a book or perhaps, her notes? I thought this photo is cool.
Needless to say, why do I have Anna Wintour's voice at the back of my head? Remember September Issue? Remember the conversation she had with Edward Enninful?
Where's the glamour? It's Vogue, okay? Please, let's lift it.
