Malcolm McLaren, Dead at 64 from Cancer

Malcolm McLaren, Dead at 64

What a very sad day. I don’t like receiving news like this so early in the morning. Another iconic British figure bites the dust. The amazing Malcolm McLaren passed away yesterday in Switzerland. He was 64.

Malcolm McLaren, dead at 64

Malcolm McLaren, an impresario, recording artist and fashion designer who as manager of the Sex Pistols played a decisive role in creating the British punk movement, died on Thursday in Switzerland. He was 64.

The cause was mesothelioma, a cancer of the linings around organs, said Young Kim, his companion of many years. She said he had been under treatment at a Swiss hospital. The couple had a home in Paris. — NY Times

While most will remember him as the Sex Pistol’s former manager or Vivienne Westwood’s ex-husband, I’ll forever remember him as an amazing artist. I always play his (very emotional, mind you) songs every time I need a jolt of inspiration. He’s one of the reasons why I love Paris so much.

Listen to La Main Parisienne or else I’m terminating our friendship STAT!

From Madame Butterfly to Deep in Vogue, as a tribute, let me share to you some of my other favourite tracks.

Stéphanie Sokolinski aka Soko – I’ll Kill Her

Damn. “If I find her I swear, I swear I’ll kill her. I’ll kill her” sounds soo chic in a French accent.

I know this is such an old song but damn, I’ve only heard of Stéphanie Sokolinski aka Soko yesterday and I’m in love with her voice.

Just when I thought everything on teh interwebs these days is incredibly dull and boring, in comes along this brilliant and hysterical video of this guy poking fun at the people on Chatroulette.

The Midnight Beast – Parody Videos Tik Tok by Ke$ha and Down by Jay Sean

The Midnight Beast – Parody Videos

Although my taste in music is rather, how should I say, rather eclectic, I must admit I’m not really a big fan of top 40 tunes. I try to avoid them as much as I can. Some songs however are being played non-stop everywhere, akin to being delivered to my system via an IV drip.

The Midnight Beast

Meet my latest obsession: Stefan Abingdon, Dru Wakely and Ashley Horne from the UK, also known on YouTube as “the Midnight Beast“. They made these bloody amazing parody videos of two of the top songs on the airwaves today: Tik Tok by Ke$ha…

… and Down by Jay Sean.

Fucking Hilarious! I love Tik Tok best.

It’s funny how these parody vids are so much better than the original tracks themselves, no?

Bless them Brits. Seriously.

Call me a fan.

Delphic – Doubt

I love this song!

Why do Brits produce the coolest music ever? IDGI.

Sing after me: Doubt, in it all for me… I’ve hit the wall, all that’s left for you is doubt. Better you than me, I’ve so far to fall. All that’s left for you is doubt, in it all for me, I’ve hit the wall. All that’s left for you is doubt, better you than me, I’ve so far to fall, but I can’t change now.

Jason Derulo Whatcha Say Wawa Remix [mp3 download]

Jason Derulo Whatcha Say

Call me obsessed but the Wawa Club remix of Jason Derulo’s Whatcha Say has been my most listened track on my ipod over the past few weeks. It’s funny because it’s not often that I listen to pop/top 40 music but that song followed me everywhere I go — on the radio while driving around in Detroit, hearing it in full blast on someone’s speakers while in the subway in NYC, hotel radio in Singapore, everywhere!

Sing after me: cause when the roof caved in and the truth came out I just didn’t know what to do. But when I become a star we’ll be living so large, I’ll do anything for you. So baby watcha say?

I finally found the time to catch up with my Ugly Betty and Gossip Girl episodes (The Treasure of Serena Madre) lo and behold they played that song again!

Tripp and Serena Kissing; The Treasure of Serena Madre Gossip Girl Season 3

Cheaters and sluts. I dislike passing judgment but horrible is all I can say. Horrible. Horrible people they are.

Vogue USA January 2010 – Already Famous – Steven Meisel, Grace Coddington, Sasha Pivovarova and more

Vogue USA January 2010 – Already Famous

The last time I had goosebumps while reading something from American Vogue
was back in December 1999 when Gisele was crowned Model of the Year at the Vogue/VH1 Fashion Music Awards. Robert Sullivan wrote: “You are Gisele. You look good. The specific way that you look good is
that you look, among other things, sexy, as in hot.
” As
a child, me and my friends would often pit her against Carmen Kass. I’m Team Carmen btw.

Now, exactly 10
years later (with Gisele being the most highly-paid model of all time), comes Vogue’s Point of View in their January 2010 issue. Read and digest. Chills running down my spine again, I tell you.

Vogue January 2010

Lo and behold comes their fun, fresh and energetic “Already Famous” editorial featuring bands and musicians like MGMT and Mika with Sasha Pivarova. Editorial shot by Steven Meisel and styled by Grace Coddington. Here’s a thumbnail preview…

MGMT? In Vogue? Spectacular! Fascinating how they’re stepping up their game.

Oh that Louis Vuitton bag with the foxtail and tassel charms please come to mama. You belong to me.

Vogue January 2010 Louis Vuitton Bag and Chester French

I don’t know when it’s gonna be out on the newstands here in Asia but I’m DEFINITELY buying this issue to see more of the images.

Passion Pit – Little Secrets (Felix Da Housecat Remix)

It’s been quite awhile since I last did a music post so here’s a little bit of uplifting something something for you to enjoy this weekend. I love this Felix Da Housecat remix of Passion Pit’s Little Secrets track. AMAZING!

Sing after me: It’s the way I see everything I need, it’s the way to be. Let this be our little secret, no one needs to know we’re feeling higher and higher and higher, higher and higher and higher! But I feel alive and I feel it in me, up and up I keep on coming, higher and higher and higher, higher and higher and higher, higher…
