It’s summer here in the third world (spring in the northern hemisphere) and these statement-making bright, colourful cardigans by Side Slope are calling my name. I’d wear them with khaki shorts, perhaps a tank or a shirt underneath and a big ol’ granny necklace and voila, the look is soo me. You can even wear something fantastic like a beige Burberry trench on top of it.
Side Slope is a Milan-based Japanese brand founded by Hiroki Wakisaka in 2005. Wakisaka is passionate about knits, placing emphasis on craftsmanship and technical skill. They even own their workshops.
Alas, these beautiful and unique cotton knit cardigans don’t come easy on the pocket.
Approx. US$550 each is the price to pay for something that special.
Givenchy Fall/Winter 2010 2011 Menswear – Jesus is Lord T-Shirt
I'm no Catholic devotee but this t-shirt is quite funny. I know I'm in the Philippines but I'm already hearing voices of fashion enthusiasts go oooh and aaaah over this tee from the fall/winter 2010-2011 Givenchy menswear collection.
Dior Homme Fall/Winter 2010 2011 Photos + First Look
I’m not sure if any of you watched the Dior Homme fall/winter 2010-2011 show online but here are several screenshots from the show which literally finished just a few minutes ago. I know it’s a big step for these brands to broadcast online and I applaud their decision to join the big, bad superfastinformationsuperhighwayonline. However, surely it wouldn’t hurt if they put a little more effort in the tech side of things, such as hiring an additional camera man to offer an alternate view, etc.

Giuliano Fujiwara Fall/Winter 2010 2011 Menswear Fashion Show Video
Here’s a quick video of the Giuliano Fujiwara fall/winter 2010 show in Milan.
I love the styling, especially the way garments were layered and of course, the casting is good too. It’s always nice to see men of colour considering Milan menswear is notoriously known for the lack of diversity on the runway.
I’m sure you’ve heard of Rodarte’s new menswear line (dubbed “BROdarte”) that’s currently being sold at Opening Ceremony. I’m a big fan of Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s brilliant work but alas, the price points are, to put it quite simply, way too out of my reach. Unless I win the lottery, Rodarte’s beautiful, hand-crafted sweaters at three thousand dollars apiece shall remain a fantasy to me.
Now here’s something a little bit more real. If you want to give that knitted mohair sweater look a try, as previously sported by members of the Sex Pistols, today is your lucky day. I was browsing eBay and found these affordable mohair knits in different colour combinations. Each of these sweaters are forty five dollars a pop.
Prada Menswear Fall/Winter 2010-2011 Fashion Show Video
Behold the first-ever Prada (menswear fall 2010) fashion show live-streamed online. Here’s the recorded version.
Spectacular. Beautiful, beautiful clothes!
In other news, be sure to subscribe — or visit — Prada’s YouTube channel. They’ve been uploading quite a number of videos in the past few hours. Amazing.
From the looks of it, Mama Miuccia & Co. are going full throttle on social media and on the internet. I guess we’ll see how they’ll fare against other designers in the next weeks or months to come.
The Fall/Winter 2010 shows will kick off this week, starting with menswear in Milan. Here’s a quick preview of what’s coming our way, courtesy of Dolce & Gabbana’s pre-show diary series.
It’s Domenico and Stefano’s 20th year in menswear and I’m definitely excited to see what they have in their sleeves. Too bad I won’t be able to make it to the shows. I need to save $$$ so I’m skipping Fall 2010 altogether.
However, just like the old days, I’m gonna watch the Dolce & Gabbana and D&G shows online. Ahhh the beauty of the internet.
