Hardwell At Madison Square Garden

17/11/2014, Current Affairs, Events, Hardwell, Music, New York City

When I first heard that Hardwell is coming to New York City, I blocked that date (November 15) on my calendar and promised myself that there was absolutely no fucking way I’d miss his performance. Many, if not most, of my friends who live in NYC aren’t fans of electronic music so if I had to go to the concert alone by myself, I will, by hook or by crook. Luckily, I made several new friends this summer and we went to the concert this Saturday.

It’s no secret that I’m a HUGE fan of Hardwell. He’s one of my favorite DJs ever. EVER! EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER! The last time I saw him perform was this summer in Ibiza. I saw him twice at Ushuaia and it was worth seeing him. I *live* for his music. I always start my day listening to his recorded sets while in the shower. And then I play his mixes and tracks throughout the day, while I’m running errands, werqing the streets, when I’m on the subway or at the airport. I love feeling that extra kick, that extra rush from playing his tracks.

If I have the opportunity to see my favorite DJs constantly, trust me, I will. I hate having to wait for a major music festival or when they travel here in New York to hear them play. Seeing them perform in huge venue in real life is much, much different than watching them on YouTube or listening to their tracks on my phone. I get chills from hearing music in FULL blast, seeing the light and laser shows, feeling the confetti on my skin and my face after falling from the sky. I love surrendering my body and soul to the music and feeling the same exact feeling as thousands of strangers who are with me at the venue. Good vibes all around. It’s a full-on, feel-good sensory experience that simply doesn’t exist elsewhere.

After the concert, I went backstage at his green room for the post-show celebration.

Hardwell performing at the Madison Square Garden (for the first time) is a HUGE feat, not just for him but also for electronic music. The venue is usually for blockbuster mainstream artists and huge sporting events. To see Hardwell bring a packed house was a major accomplishment. To perform to a full audience dancing and having the time of their lives, at the Madison Square Garden arena, is every artist’s dream. I’m so happy Hardwell fulfilled that.

I loved his three-hour set. It was a fun mix of his classics thrown in with a few new tracks and a handful of different popular electronic anthems. It’s much different than his Ibiza or music festival sets. It felt like a “Best of” performance, after all, his tour is (appropriately) named “I am Hardwell”. He long made his mark in the music scene but this time around, he finally made his mark in a legendary New York City institution. Congratulations!

Les Pavillons De Monte Carlo

04/10/2014, Events, Fashion and Style, Monaco, Monte Carlo

Like the old saying goes, follow the signs! I think it’s amusing and ironic how, out of all the inflight movie selections, I ended up choosing to watch the film “Grace of Monaco” starring Nicole Kidman on the flight from JFK to London City airport less than a month ago. The movie made me curious about Monaco and I found myself asking how and why I haven’t gone there. Little did I know that was a sign from the powers that be! Fast forward to yesterday evening (after two plane rides and a chic helicopter transfer), I attended the inauguration of the new Les Pavillons de Monte Carlo, a gorgeous retail complex in the heart of Monte Carlo. HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco cut the ribbon and opened the festivities.

The Monte Carlo Societe des Bains de Mer commissioned architect Richard Martinet, working with Cherif Jahlan, to design the Pavillons de Monte Carlo. For the next four years, the cluster of five modern, off-white aluminium structures inspired by the pebbles found on Riviera beaches will serve as temporary “pop-up” housing for some of the world’s prestigious brands such as Balenciaga, Boucheron, Saint Laurent, Akris, Miu Miu, Sonia Rykiel, Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta, Lanvin, Chopard and more.

I’ve never been to Monte Carlo or Monaco before so it was amazing to be welcomed in such spectacular environment. I had so much fun at the event!

Electric Zoo 2014 (Day 2 x Zedd)

02/09/2014, Current Affairs, Electric Zoo, Events, Music

I thought I’d share some of my fave highlights on Day 2 of Electric Zoo 2014 Music Festival. At first I was like, hmm, should I go back for another round? Maybe, maybe not, maybe, maybe not. I ended up going on Day 2 and I have zero regrets because Day 3, like last year, was cancelled PREMATURELY by the authorities because of this so-called “severe weather forecast”, which, btw, didn’t happen. Just a few minutes of drizzle (YAASSSSS!) and pretty much this side of the Atlantic comes to a complete halt. Americans, especially in the East Coast, are particularly paranoid when it comes to weather.

I loved Dyro, Zedd and Armin’s sets. I had so much fun hanging out with the kids. I think I’m gonna maximize this moment before I reach that point of no return. I don’t wanna be one of those 40 year olds who look like 40 year olds but act like a bunch of 16 year olds, ya know? Not a good lewk.

I can’t believe summer is almost over and fashion month (PLEASE DON’T REFER IT AS “FASHION WEEK” BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW IT AIN’T A WEEK) begins, well, on Wednesday. Going all out over the weekend was a good way to remind myself that I’m human, I’m capable of letting my hair down and have lots fun.

Jason Wu x 2014 Young Friends of Acria Summer Soiree

13/06/2014, Current Affairs, Events, Fashion and Style, Jason Wu, Models

I had fun the other night at the Young Friends of ACRIA’s second annual summer soiree hosted by Jason Wu. I love going out especially for a good cause! ACRIA held an auction, featuring work by Steven Klein, Steven Meisel, Juergen Teller, Inez and Vinoodh and more, to benefit people living with HIV. Highlights of my night? Jason, as always, gave a beautiful speech and catching up with my lovely Jaime King who looked so beautiful in Jason Wu Fall 2014. Oh, Adriana Lima looked like a billion dollars. She’s flawless! My earliest memory of her was back in the day when she did all those Dior ads — and now she’s a woman!

All Aboard The Brooklyn-Bound Christian Dior Ferry

09/05/2014, Celebrity Gossip, Christian Dior, Current Affairs, Events, Fashion and Style, Rihanna

Ladies and gentlemen, the next Brooklyn-bound Dior Ferry will arrive in 2 minutes. The next stop is Brooklyn Navy Yard. Please mind the gap between yourself and the models.

I texted my friend Jane, Glamour Magazine’s new Fashion News Director at 2PM: “Let’s meet at 6:15PM, 35th street pier, if you can. I want to be there early.” We both decided to take the logo-emblazoned chartered ferry (complete with all-white seat covers and cocktails served) to Brooklyn Navy Yard, the venue of yesterday evening’s Christian Dior 2015 cruise fashion show. As we got out of our cars, an army of handsome all-American male model ushers greeted us. They looked cute in double-breasted navy blazers, some dressed in complete sailor ensembles with the Dior insignia patch. I had a hard time stopping myself from using the guys as a backdrop for an instagram shot. A staggering amount of magazine editors, as well as a slew of impeccably-dressed, Dior-clad clients ditched their cars and took that ferry ride with us. I guess people are traumatized (and smarter) from their experience after that major Alexander Wang show in February.

Everyone Was There

07/05/2014, Celebrity Gossip, Events, Fashion and Style

“I have NOT seen you in a year,” the formidable Naomi exclaimed when I greeted her after she walked in with Riccardo Tisci. Monday night was one big blur. A few things I remember happening from that night: dancing with the very pint-size and pretty Reese Witherspoon, admiring Lupita Nyong’o’s dress (looked amazing in real life), stroking Olivier Rousteing’s bare chest, Rihanna coming up to me and shamelessly asking her for a ciggie on the dancefloor (her bodyguard opened a fresh pack from his pocket and lit it for me), sitting on Riccardo’s lap, Anne Hathaway introducing herself to me “Hi, I’m Anne” while I cozied up with Jason Wu and Diane Kruger. Everyone was there. I can’t even! I didn’t wanna be the loser who took photos left, right and center so after a few photos, I kept my phone firmly in my pocket and enjoyed the night.

Let me share some of my 2014 Met Ball Best Dressed picks. My favourite is Bee Shaffer. She looked regal in Alexander McQueen. Emmy Rossum’s floral Carolina Herrera frock is gorgeous. Kim Kardashian, in Lanvin, also looked great. As for the rest? Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa, Suki Waterhouse in Burberry Prorsum, Arizona Muse in Ralph & Russo, Dakota Johnson in Jason Wu, Lena Dunham in Giambattista Valli, Anne Hathaway in Calvin Klein.
