Very Village People

28/08/2012, Accessories, Current Affairs, Hats, New York City

Rumi and I trekked to the East Village this Sunday for brunch at Via Della Pace. It’s been a while since I last had eggs benedict, smoked salmon and mimosas on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I love the East Vilage. I really do. There are tons of cute little cafes, restaurants and vintage shops. I should come back there more often.

A Mixture of Textures

25/08/2012, Accessories, Current Affairs, Fashion and Style, J Crew, Oscar de la Renta, Prada

How are you prepping for fall? I bought this tweed outfit (top and trousers) from J Crew sometime last week and I thought it would be cool to elevate the look with this ultra chic and ultra luxe crocodile Oscar de la Renta small dex bag. Ditto with the floral appliques of the new shoe from Prada. Little touches of lady-like goodness certainly won’t hurt a boy from time to time.

American Eagle

21/08/2012, Current Affairs

It’s ironic how denim *anything* is the ultimate, effortless staple, like a crisp white button-down shirt or a soft, white cotton t-shirt and here I am, constantly struggling to find ways to integrate denim in my looks.I’ll be honest when I say that it’s my least favourite fabric. That doesn’t mean I’m completely discounting denim from my closet either. I do wear jeans from time to time, like, whenever I’m having ‘lazy’ days or the very rare occasion when I feel like doing so but really, denim is my last option. And I love it.

Rumi and I made a pit stop somewhere in between West Wendover and Winnemucca, Nevada to admire the insane view of dirty nothingness. And what better way to celebrate such moment than paying a nod to what was, historically-speaking, the fabric of choice of the working class. Gold rush, anyone?

Boys of Middle Earth

20/08/2012, Celine, Current Affairs, Phillip Lim, Prada

What’s worse than a crying infant while trying to sleep on intercontinental flights? A twenty-minute ferry ride from Manhattan to Brooklyn filled with children laughing, children crying, babies who ate their own fingers and hands, babies who dropped their pacifiers on the floor, etc etc etc. I’m very much pro-water taxis but yesterday’s trek was something else. Rumi and I were surrounded by screaming toddlers on the ride to Williamsburg.

In My Own Element

18/08/2012, Alexander McQueen, Current Affairs, Michael Kors

Oh the things that we do, the places we’ll go to get that photo taken. The Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah was the crown jewel of our recent road trip. Located just a few hours drive from Salt Lake City, the salt flats is the most incredible, most picturesque, most desolate place I’ve ever set foot in my whole life. No words can describe the emotions I felt when I was there. Imagine being separated from humanity and being in touch with planet Earth — no roads, no lights, no traces of culture, civilization or man-made items. Very post-apocalyptic.

Mi Casa Su Casa

18/08/2012, Current Affairs, Hats, Jil Sander, Phillip Lim

Sincerest apologies for the silence as of late. I’m having one heck of a wild summer. It’s been a month since I moved in and my very modest and miniscule apartment is finally seeing some signs of life. I have clutter on my hallway, cigarette ashes outside my bedroom window and dead hydrangeas in my garbage can. I have orchids, dead pheasants, scorpions and a taxidermied fox. I’m also starting to get visitors! My beloved Rumi, who’s visiting from LA, is my living room’s first tenant. There’s something amusing about turning the air-conditioning to full blast indoors and wrapping oneself in a mink blanket while it’s scorching hot and humid outside. I still have a long way to go to turn my humble home decent and camera-ready, so give me some time before I post pictures online. Just like yourself, I look forward to having a cute apartment in the next few months to come. I want to finally be able to say ‘Mi Casa Su Casa’.

Decorating and interior woes aside, it’s nice to finally explore NYC as a resident instead of being a visitor. Rumi and I took the water taxi (her first ride) and explored Brooklyn the other day.

Mo’ Marni, Mo’ Problems

12/08/2012, Current Affairs, Fall Winter 2012, Marni

I’ve been obsessed with this graphic black and white Marni sweater ever since I laid my eyes on it at Barney’s when my life support group (aka my BF and Rumi) and I went to Las Vegas in June. It felt morally wrong to buy knits in the desert so I was like ok, I’ll buy it later. A few weeks later, I went to Jamaica, moved to NYC where I saw it at Saks Fifth Avenue. Once again, I skipped it. It just doesn’t feel right to buy a $600 sweater when it’s sweltering outside, you know?

Wind the clocks forward to our pit stop in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rumi and I needed a quick jolt of wardrobe pickups so we popped by Nordstrom one lazy afternoon. I ooohed and aahed at the $4,000 Dries Van Noten fur-trimmed parka. MACAN. MACAN is what I say whenever I see something that I like that ends up being too expensive. Moving Along, Can’t Afford, Next. While Rumi was busy hoarding more Alexander Wang pieces, I bolted to the nearby Marni rack. There’s my baby once again — the Marni black and white sweater that’s been hounding me for weeks. The ribbed neck detail (navy and red) is different to the ones that I saw (purple and yellow).

I don’t know what they want from me but it’s like the more Marni we come across, the more problems we see.

Lake Tahoe Pit Stop

12/08/2012, Burberry, California, Current Affairs, Nevada

After a week’s worth of desert, drought and desolate sceneries, we drove from Reno, Nevada to oh-so-gorgeous Lake Tahoe. It’s refreshing to see traces of greenery and civilization once again. Lake Tahoe is so beautiful.

This is too cute and funny not to be shared. Rumi and I tried to record a video vlog for Nylon Magazine and we failed.
