Two Weeks In Ibiza

08/07/2014, Cartier, Celine, Current Affairs, Ibiza, Reed Krakoff

Oh Ibiza. What have you done to me? After visiting Ibiza last year, I made a personal promise to come back again this year, so, here I am. I’ve been here on this lovely Spanish island for roughly about two weeks now. Mr Sweden and I stayed at a charming little hotel high up in the old town for a few days before sharing a villa with close friends for a week and now that they’ve all left, I extended my stay at the ultimate party hotel, Ushuaia. It’s the same place where I stayed at last year.

The first hotel we stayed at had the slowest internet so I was not able to use my laptop. I was like “ok, I can survive without the internet for a few days, it’s fine.”

Five minutes after arriving to the villa we rented, I thought my friend Jason and his partner Gustavo were kidding when they told me we didn’t have internet access in the house. I felt I was gonna die right then and there but after not opening my computer for five days, it was a clear sign from the powers that be that I should be on vacation mode and that’s exactly what I did!

So up until now (there’s wifi at Ushuaia, by the way, hence the blog post), all we did was eat, sleep, rave, repeat. And a bit of tanning here and there. Ok, fine, I tanned EVERY day. I had no choice — all the white people in my group were obsessed in getting some color. I tried to fight the urge at first by covering myself in blankets and towels but in the end, my inner Donatella prevailed!

I have a love/hate relationship with tanning. Being ultra tanned is a good look with the beach as a backdrop and you’re wearing close to nothing but once you’re in the city with fierce clothes, ugh, gross. It’s not a good lewk on me.

One of my highlights from this trip is that I was able to see a number of my favorite DJs perform their sets. I’m a huge fan of electronic music, especially progressive house. I have so much energy I could dance for hours straight, sober. I get high (and goosebumps!!!) hearing familiar tracks that I know the lyrics to. I always go all out whenever I dance. I don’t care about anyone else. Put your hands up in the air, dance, sweat it all out, lose weight, feel great. #putyourhandsupintheair

Nicky Romero was my favorite out of everyone but Hardwell was also very, very good. I’m so glad he has his Ibiza residency. I hope Nicky would get his soon. I also saw Axwell and Ingrosso but to be honest, their performance was my least favorite.

Am I ready to go home? Not really. Thank god summer is far from being over… mine only just begun.

Cafe Hafa, Tangier

29/05/2014, Acne, Barbara Bui, Cartier, Celine, Current Affairs, Morocco, Phillip Lim, Tangier

No trip to Tangier is complete without visiting the legendary Cafe Hafa. Founded in 1921, this modest cafe perched along a cliff with spectacular views of the Bay of Tangier (and Spain on a very good, very clear day). Cafe Hafa is known for its mint tea. You go there, sit back, relax and enjoy a glass of their refreshing tea. The vibe is very casual. It’s ultra low-key so don’t expect full fare or anything fancy.

Simplicity

15/09/2013, Accessories, Cartier, Handbags, Jason Wu, Saint Laurent Paris, Smythson of Bond Street

I don’t know what it is but lately, I’m obsessed with simplicity. I love the idea of keeping everything to the bare minimum. Why carry a bulky bag when a small, clutch will do? Why bring a heavy wallet when there’s the lizard case option? Why wear a bangle when you can sport a chic, thin, gold bracelet? Why carry a packet of cigarettes and a lighter when you can get your nicotine fix via NJOY e-cigarettes? There’s something about well-chosen little things that pack a lot of punch.

Romantic

05/09/2013, Acne, Adrienne Landau, Cartier, Chanel, Christian Dior, Current Affairs

New York Fashion Week officially begins today which means today is also the first day of fashion month. I thought I’d share some photos Rumi and I took while having lunch at Zink Grill in Stockholm, one of our favourite lunch spots. Calm before the storm, as they say. I’m so happy I had some “down time” with my best friend before the madness begins. It’s gonna be crazy over the next few weeks — there’s New York, there’s Milan, there’s Paris, there’s the trip to Los Angeles for a day for Teen Vogue’s Young Hollywood event in between, then there’s Paris again for more shows. Lord have mercy on me. As Emily once said, “I love my job, I love my job, I love my job.” Wore my Acne Romantic sweater with a pair of trousers from Theory.

Be sure to follow my fashion week adventures on my social media outlets! I’m also covering the Prabal Gurung show and afterparty on behalf of NJOY e-cigarettes so be sure to follow @NJoyecigs and #NJOYment.

Ibiza Situation

18/07/2013, Cartier, Current Affairs, Marc Jacobs, Prada

Just when I thought my summer could not get any worse, the lord almighty, whoever or wherever it might be, answered by prayers and sent me to Ibiza. Si, si, si, hola, hola, hola Eivissa! The last time I went here was more than a decade ago. I’m not even gonna tell you when exactly because it will cement the notion that I’m a dinosaur. But yes, I’m THRILLED, I’m so happy to be back. I’ve decided that I’m gonna make an effort from now on to spend a week here at least during summer. Every year. Why haven’t I gone here before when I go to Europe all the fucking time? Ugh. Looking back, it’s fascinating how I’ve worked so hard over the past few years that I forgot to take real vacations. It’s great that I get to travel more than a pilot even if it’s mostly for work. If there’s anything I’ve learned in the past 24 hours that I’ve been here, it’s… well, it’s important to take a break from it all. Shake that booty bitches, it’s time to party.

World Traveler Series

08/06/2013, Cartier, COS, Current Affairs, Ferragamo, Giorgio Armani, Morocco, Rabat, Suno

On our last day in Morocco, Rumi, Queenie and I piled into a chartered van to hit unexplored areas of Rabat. Our first stop was the shopping area at Rue due Consuls where I found an amazing hand-dyed and hand-woven hooded jacket and a messenger bag to match.

In light of our new purchases, Rumi challenged me to work on my rendition of the ‘world traveler’ look. Rumi, as you know, is known for her effortless, luxe/bohemian sensibilities. Unfortunately, I own very few options that would have passed for ‘world traveler’. Rumi vetoed out my new, space-age (as she called it) Ferragamo fall 2013 bag and the white, button-down Giorgio Armani shirt I had on. She insisted in lending me one of her her peasant-inspired blouses to match my embroidered Suno shorts. She finally gave up when I protested by crying ‘I need my fashion credits!’ in the van.

It was golden hour and we asked our diver to pull over at the entrance of a small medina just outside of the city. I hid my white Ferragamo bag inside the ethnic messenger bag and, to Queenie and Rumi’s surprise, took it out after a few shots. They both ganged up on me and laughed at my inability to pass up the opportunity of using a fashion credit.

Kasbah Chellah, Morocco

04/06/2013, Cartier, Current Affairs, Ferragamo, Giorgio Armani, Morocco

It was our third day in Rabat and we decided to break away from the rest of the group to do a little bit of exploring. Our first stop was the Kasbah, which we had assumed there was only one. We thought we were headed to Kasbah Des Oudaias, but ended up instead at what our driver told us was Kasbah Chellah.

Kasbah Chellah was the site of an ancient Roman city and necropolis. A local guide tagged along behind us, insisting we be accompanied. But after many protests in broken French, he left us on our own.

As we wound our way into the maze of crumbling buildings and ruins, we began to notice the many ancient gravestones as well as the immense stork nests perched among the tops of the walls and arches. The site had a strangely eerie feeling. While our visit to Kasbah Chellah was completely accidental, I have to say that I’m glad we made the trip.

Worldly Purchases

31/05/2013, Cartier, COS, Hermes, Karen Walker, Savannah

I love my labels. I really do. Who doesn’t? Who doesn’t like to wear things that people can easily identify? Fashion, thanks to its multi-billion dollar global advertising budgets, has a way of making identifiable things ultra desirable. The more identifiable an item or a brand is, the higher the value goes.

Anyway, believe it or not, some of my favourite purchases don’t come with a label attached to them. I recently bought this python skin jacket and shorts in Bali for a fraction of what it might retail for elsewhere. The shorts were about US$150, almost the same as a pair of cotton shorts in America! The quality isn’t the same, of course, but it’s not bad either.

Crystal Cove Beach

01/03/2013, Balenciaga, California, Cartier, Current Affairs

Time has flown since I arrived in Southern California; it’s become quite evident that beaches are a huge part of the local culture. Queenie’s been wanting to show me around Orange County. So, after taping, we headed out to see some of the beaches. Each beach I’ve visited was more beautiful than the next. But like many things in life, beauty can often be deceptive. From the sand to the sunshine, everything was perfect—expect for the water, which turned out to be fucking freezing. I guess I’ll have to wait until the summer.

Friendship Tokens

25/02/2013, Cartier, Current Affairs, Jewelry, Los Angeles

Like the old Nike saying goes, Just do it! Rumi and I popped by Cartier in Beverly Hills yesterday afternoon to look at some jewels. We walked out empty-handed after thirty minutes of browsing and continued our journey, hopping from one store to the next on Rodeo Drive all the way down to Barney’s. I’m not gonna lie, thinking about the obscene amount of money we spend on clothes, shoes and accessories on a regular basis (as an important part of our job), only to end up in the back of our closets, made me sick to my stomach. Do we really need another pair of shoes? Do we really need another bag? Do we really need that gorgeous Celine white leather biker jacket? The honest answer — no, not really. The REAL honest answer, ok, let’s not kid ourselves, YES! The point I’m trying to make here is, I do feel somewhat guilty spending so much money on clothes that ultimately loose their value after a season or two. After four hours of wandering around stores (and leaving with Proenza Schouler and Balenciaga tops… don’t judge!!!), we found ourselves back at Cartier and ended up walking out with something of REAL value that would, hopefully, withstand the test of time. Don’t worry, it’s nothing ultra extravagant; just an every day piece that we’ll have to wear for years and years to bring down the cost-per-wear ratio down… all the way to the ground. LOL!!!
