The Sartorialist Book by Scott Schuman

For US$16.50, now you too can pre-order Scott Schuman aka The Sartorialist’s new self-titled book to be released on August 12, 2009.

Scott Schuman just wanted to take photographs of people on the
street who looked great. His now famous blog (‘the bellwether American
site that turned photo blogging into an art form’ – “New York Times“)
was an attempt to showcase the wonderful and varied sartorial tastes of
real people – not only those of the fashion industry. The book is a
beautiful anthology of Scott’s favourite shots from around the world.
They include photographs of well-known fashion figures as well as those
shots of the anonymous passerby whose imagination and taste delight the
viewer. From the streets of Rio to Bejing, Stockholm to Milan, these
are the people that have inspired Scott and in turn, inspired designers
and people of all ages, wages and nationalities with an interest in
fashion. Intimately designed and created with Scott, the book is a
handsome object in its own right, in full colour on hand-picked,
quality paper.

  1. I have no interest in this book.

The Sart bores me to pieces and he keeps photographing the same look and recycles it over and over again. I’m almost sure that every person in this book will look like a clone. It will be filled with poor art students wearing suede booties, tight black blazers with sleeves rolled up, huge collars and black sunglasses. Blah blah blah!!!

  2. Thanks for the head’s up… I somewhat agree that The Sartorialist can be quite boring… but I am nevertheless a fan. I will be buying this book.

I wish Facehunter or Jak & Jil blog would release a book… those are really where I get inspiration from.

Hmmmm….I think I will go and see the book at the store…if it is any good I will get it
but I agree that if Jak & Jil would put book out I would get one for sure!

  4. I have a love hate relationship with The Sartorialist, and I really like it, but sometimes it can get boring. Haha. However, I won’t buy it if it’s not a coffee table book. There are some books for reading, and some books for reading. If its a huge hardcover book, I might buy it for the living room, but other than that, it’s not really that great. I won’t actually sit down to read it, but we will see.

  5. I agree with pretty much everyone. I think the Sartorialist takes really great photos, but all the looks can get pretty repetitive and boring. There’s only so many white middle-aged men with seersucker jackets and cuffed trousers that I can tolerate. I will def LOOK at his book at Barnes and Noble, but I think I’d have to pass on buying it. But def if Jak & Jil did a book, I’d buy it

to be honest i’d rather buy his girlfriend’s, Garance Dore’s, book, if she had one. she is much more talented in photography, has keener eye for interesting (and different!) faces and outfits, and draws amazing fashion illustrations…and writes well.
