Balenciaga Menswear Spring/Summer 2009

Interesting for Ghesquiere to insert a few men's looks at Balenciaga's Spring 2009 women's ready-to-wear show.

That first look I don’t particularly care for – yeah, it’s experimental and different. But, for me, it just doesn’t work well.
The other looks I either don’t mind or like. But, I would pair those jackets with pants that had a wider, more relaxed profile. That’s just my taste though, as I never cared for the whole skinny leg look. For smaller guys, the skinny leg thing looks OK. But, for guys my height – >= 6’2″ – with slim-athletic builds, I find it looks a bit odd on us.

Ghesquiere definitely took a risk by adapting the Balenciaga silhouette to menswear. I think he was successful. I wish more American designers would be more like this.
