Arnold Galang: Prada is dat chu?

Arnold Galang: Prada Spring 2008 is dat chu?

It's Philippine Fashion Week 2008 and thanks to the very accommodating Joey Espino, I managed to grab a front row seat.  Two of my closest friends were there (one is a journo and the other was a designer who also showed) so I thought, what the heck, might as well go, right? I have critics who always give me flak for not blogging about Filipino models, designers and what have you and there are several individuals out there calling me "racist" and such. Puhhhleeeaze!

Now. One of the collections that struck me the most (it was the styling and the color palette) was Arnold Galang's collection.

Miuccia Prada is one of those designers that EVERYONE keeps an eye on. Like Rei Kawakubo, Martin Margiela and Marc Jacobs, she's influential and directional.

She's so directional that her influence reached the shores of third world.

Check out the styling...

Not so much on this one but you get the idea.

Compare to Prada Spring/Summer 2008.

According to the Philippine Fashion Week brief, Arnold Galang was inspired by "Jean Matteau's Gilles".

I googled "Jean Matteau" as soon as I got home but alas, it looks like they made a typo. Perhaps who they meant was Jean-Antoine Watteau who made "Gilles"?

Right.

Anyway, back to the clothes...

His newest collection "features a green color palette rendered in an array of materials such as stretch jersey, poly lines and silk taffeta."

Kabugera si Charo

what's inside the Henkel paper bag?

what a rip-off

the models are fat fat fat

I just don't understand why our designers like to create clothes that aren't really fit for a tropical climate like ours! We should even take advantage of our climate - make it the summer fashion capital of the world or whatever you call it. who can wear those clothes in a 100F degree weather???

OMG! Sacrilege!

Oh, come on. They probably couldn't afford to get the Autumn 08 jayjay shoes made for this show.

hahaha
u got 'em there dint u?
